In 1967, David Alan Harvey left his middle-class lifestyle in Virginia Beach, VA with his last $400 and traveled 26 miles west to Norfolk, Virginia to shoot Tell It Like It Is. He stayed with the Liggins family for a month and photographed the economically disadvantaged black family of seven as they went about their daily life.
