I use Windsor & Newton for watercolour, Gold ink and gouache, and Sakura brand’s portable watercolour palette. Make sure you have tissue paper on the side so you can dab off excess water when colouring. If you’re using pencil to sketch, try using one with harder graphite like 2H so that it won’t smudge as easily. I have 3 watercolour brushes right now, sizes 1, 2, and 6, all different brands. Choose the ones within your price range. The more expensive ones tend to last longer without losing hair. If you can afford it, I recommend getting Arches watercolour blocks, though Canson watercolour blocks will do good as well. At least 140lbs thick. The heavier the paper, the less it will buckle when you use a lot of water and colour a large section of the paper, and it won’t dry in puddles you can’t control. The blocks are also sealed on all 4 sides so that also helps control the buckling a lot more than single sheet paper. Downside is you can’t use lightbox to transfer drawings. There’s actually also a way to seal single sheet paper onto a wooden board so it won’t buckle, but it’s pretty hard. Google it if you’re curious. I also like using masking tape for a smooth edge. ~ People have asked how I do specks on my watercolour/gouache paintings. I dab a toothbrush (like the cheap ones dentists give out) in gouache white because gouache is opaque, and I go back over it with more white if the splashes are watery and dry more transparent. ~ I do edit my work digitally because a lot of information is lost when transferring to digital media (like saturation). My gold shines very well because I combine two photos together, one with good lighting for the artwork and one with good lighting for the gold. ~ I hope this helps some peeps~!?? The most important thing is still to practice a lot, not just in watercolour but really with a pencil, studying structure and form and other basic draftsmanship (basic art skills) is the most important thing and a good foundation for all types of art. Can’t build something too fast or on quicksand ? #qinnifaq
