Light and shadow. Part of the Ahu Tahai ceremonial complex, Ko Te Riku is a single Moai that was restored to its standing position in the 1970's on the west coast of Easter Island (Rapa Nui), Chile. Just North of the main town of Hanga Roa, it is the only Moai that has been fully restored, which in this case means that it has eyes. There are so many interesting facts about these statues. For example, they were erected along the coast, and rather than facing the sea (to guard against invaders) they all faced inland (supposedly to watch over the people). This collection of Moai is a great place to watch the sunset (with a glass of great Chilean wine and a blanket, of course). // photo by @jonathan_irish
