The silkworm’s cocoon is a complex architectural feat -- far more sophisticated than any human manufacturing. For the massive structure above, architect and designer Neri Oxman created a scaffold with synthetic silk, then brought in 6500 silkworms to help her complete the structure. “As they spin biological silk over robotically spun silk, they give this entire pavilion its integrity,” she says.
