I hated watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the theater when my sons coerced me to go last year. And I hated watching it this afternoon on Hulu. But when you've been working all day and they've been in school all day, you put up with the horribleness of such a film for a few minutes of cuddling with a bunch of growing boys who won't want to hang out on Mom's bed to watch a dumb movie for much longer. It's what we do as parents. We take the moments, however loud, ridiculous, or messy they may be and make them tiny memories which help make up what we hope is a good childhood and someday a remarkable human.
And can we all agree that 85% of "kid" movies are sincerely the worst? How does so much money get thrown at such ridiculousness?
