#ColinCook (@surfcolin401) is the latest #SharkAttack victim in the seemingly inflated number that have occurred in #Hawaii over the past couple of years. Colin lost his left leg below the knee surfing #Leftovers on the #NorthShore of #Oahu this past week. But from what I understand they had to continue to amputate above the knee. Colin faces a long and painful recovery to get himself not only back in the water but over the mental trauma this would bring to your reality.

When he's ready, hopefully he can be fitted with a top level prosthetic similar to @mikecoots, another Hawaiian surfer who lost his leg and overcame his challenges to become one of the most inspiring people I know (he was attacked as a bodyboarder and started stand up surfing after his incident...and he's also a great photographer). @uluboi is another friend of ours who was attacked by a #TigerShark on the Big Island a few years ago and suffered a long recovery but made a solid comeback and was in the water and charging as soon as possible.
Side notes...
•Leftovers is well known as a 'sharky' spot with plenty of sightings. A bodyboarder disappeared there just before dark a few years back, his bodyboard being found the following day with a bite taken out of it. •There are 480 species of sharks in the ocean and only 4 which are responsible for double digit numbers of fatal attacks on humans...Tigers, Bulls, Great Whites and Oceanic Whitetips.
•#ReunionIsland is also having a crazy number of attacks in recent years for some reason, so much so that people have stopped surfing almost altogether. I'll post some info about the situation there soon.
