#GoPro Featured Photographer - @nickkeating About the shot: Upon entering @whistlerblackcomb for @Crankworx this year, we checked into our hotel rooms and blasted straight for the lift. We had arrived a day early for scouting the mountain and to capitalize on our efforts we made way for the summit and the world renowned Top of the World trail. With nearly 5,000 feet of vertical, and some of the most pristine high alpine lift access single track in the world, we rambled our way back to the village with massive grins and a heap of shooting locations that would suit us the rest of the week. How the shot was captured: Most any time we location scout or see a scene for the first time, we like to have cameras at the ready to judge proper exposure settings as well as to observe how the scene is translated into a still image. With so much vertical to descend, I turned to a Chesty mount – one of my go-to's for mountain biking – and paired it with a #HERO4Black set to 0.5 second #TimeLapse mode. This angle and interval helped provide us a glimpse into which parts of the mountain would be most photogenic, and along with knowledge of the suns path, gave us a clue to where the sun crossed each section of trail. #ProTip: Enabling Protune opens up a gamut of settings than can greatly influence your shot - one of which is exposure compensation. For Mountain Biking, this tool can be particularly useful when in patchy lighting situations, such as riding in the woods in which you dive in and out of light pockets - something we relied on heavily lower down on the mountain once the sun popped out. When in these environments, try setting an exposure compensation value of -0.5, this will trick your camera into running a bit faster shutter speed which will help counteract some of the motion blur and leave you with more bangers!
