#Oracle team members were excited to participate in the event “ShipIt” that took place in mid-August. The event was held at the Oracle Mexico Development Center (MDC), which has over 700 employees working there. Team Mariachis noted that every non-employee that visits the MDC has to talk to the receptionist in the lobby, which was their inspiration at the ShipIt event. The teams idea was to create a virtual kiosk that would serve as an entry point for every visitor. It consisted of a screen with a simple and elegant user interface, that took care of finding people in the corporate directory, contacting them, and generating PDF badges. The team used BlueStacks, an Android emulator for the PC, to easily install an Android app and enable a touch-screen monitor. This device would represent the kiosk. In the background, were web services to scrape the corporate directory, and notify employees via e-mail and IM. The final part was a web panel, where HR personnel could schedule interviews and assign interviewers. The team split up the tasks including: working on the web panel for the interviews, the web services, the pdf conversion, the IM and e-mail communication, the design, and making the Android app. To conclude the event, each participating team had to present their ideas and then everyone got to vote for their favorite project. After the final voting, team Mariachis got first place! #lifeatOracle #tbt #throwbackthursday
