Photo by @jonathankingston One of my favorite train rides on the planet, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway. The train line links the warm climate of the lowlands of Tamil Nadu, at roughly 1000 feet of elevation, with the cool climate of the hill stations of the Western Ghats, at roughly 7000 feet elevation. A world heritage site, the steam engine doing the heavy lifting up the rack and pinion track is a Swiss made X Class locomotive that is lovingly maintained and has been in service for over 80 years. @natgeocreative
