Meet Spencer. He’s a Lynx point Balinese and is around 10 months old. He was 4 paw declawed and had his upper canine teeth removed by a very unethical and inhumane veterinarian. The cruel owners moved out of their apartment and left him behind. The landlord took him to a shelter east of Dallas and then he was picked up by the @KittyAdventureRescue League in Fort Worth.
He has nail regrowth in at least one of his back paws and hard calluses where the claws would have been from the toe bone amputations. He doesn’t like to jump down from heights so most likely he is in quite a bit of pain. His story is one of the thousands of examples as to why declawing needs to be banned in North America my friends. It’s quite appalling that there are many veterinarians out there who call themselves “doctors” and they will do these kind of mutilating and barbaric procedures to a little kitty. It is also quite appalling that cat owners will request this to be done to their kitties AND then abandon them.
It’s a veterinarian’s responsibility to say to their clients that declawing and removing teeth are inhumane and that they won’t do it. But sadly too many of them do it for the money or because they don’t want to lose a client and they just don’t care about the welfare of these cats.
There is zero accountability for these kind of barbaric medical procedures that are done in the hands of someone like this veterinarian in the Dallas area, who took an oath to heal and help animals. Please speak out to your own veterinarians and ask them to do the right thing and help us end this inhumane thing by taking a stand against it and stop performing it. If they won’t stop then let them know you are taking your business to a no-declaw veterinarian.
