Learning to read for wisdom- not speed. "...reading for wisdom began to decline in the 12th century." WHO KNEW?
As the school year kicks off, and meanwhile kicks my ass, this gem from FINDING SANCTUARY brings me a ton of peace and is teaching me to have patience with myself. Don't know about my fellow students, but cram reading for class is a necessary evil -shout out to #sparknotes you guys rule ?
But Carthusian monk Guigo says this:
"Reading as it were, puts the food in the mouth; meditation chews it and breaks it up; prayer extracts its flavor; contemplation the sweetness itself which gladdens and refreshens." We can approach every great text like this, not just spiritual ones. It may take more time, but in the journey of life, it's probably worth it.
I write this to hold myself accountable; I'm goi g to make an effort to read for WISDOM now and not just for speed ( though I still wish I could speed read ?).
