Photo by @andywcoleman // Borneo is a renowned destination for birdwatchers, boasting over 600 species. There are many rare, endemic birds here, but we tended to gravitate to some of the more colorful species. We were able to follow 3 species of kingfisher along the river and our favorite was the blue eared. This iridescent bird was perched on branches along the river, waiting to dive into the water to catch its prey. They were not very keen on sitting still, so we were happy when we were able to get close enough for a good photo. Taken while on a wilderness safari at Sukau Rainforest Lodge, one of the National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World.
