Music photographer Colin Kerrigan (@colinkerrigan) makes a living as a journalist for Philly.com. Before that, finding a band publicist willing to give him a press pass to a concert could be taxing.
“I literally would send emails upon emails to publicists and managers,” he says. “At first I would have to explain, ‘Oh, I am a Temple University journalism student. I love music, I love photography. Can I interview so-and-so and can I get a press pass?’”
The perseverance paid off. Now 26, Colin gets to photograph major musicians on a regular basis.
“I am definitely a fan first and foremost,” he says. “I appreciate that I get to make cool things with the artist, even though they probably don’t know I’m in the photo pit.”
