Catching waves at one of New York City’s two designated surfing beaches, in #Rockaway, Queens. The growing popularity of surfing in the area has attracted large beach crowds, fueled new businesses and generated other economic boosts. But it has also made the two city-sanctioned #surfing beaches, near Beach 90th and Beach 67th Streets, packed with wave seekers. While many surfers are pushing for a new or expanded surfing area nearby in an area that is closed to both swimming and surfing, residents of a new development there want the beaches reserved for the swimmers.
