Grasshoppers on a post in #Missouri. George Tames, a @ニューヨーク・タイムズ staff photographer, captured this photo in 1954. The year before, he had traveled to Colby, Kansas, to photograph a serious wheat surplus — one that put American taxpayers on the hook for nearly $1 billion. When George returned to the region the following year, conditions had changed: Missouri was blighted by drought. This #nytweekender, we have been sharing photos from our #archives of life in America’s breadbasket.
