The @ニューヨーク・タイムズ photographer George Tames took this photo in #Missouri in 1954. Although he was best known for his portraits of presidents, George made two trips to America’s breadbasket in 1954 and the following year — first to document the wheat surplus, and then later to photograph the drought. A city man, born and raised in Washington, his was an outsider’s view, marked by strangeness and wonder. This #nytweekender, we’re dusting off our #archives and sharing George’s photos of life in America’s breadbasket in the early #1950s.
