On a personal note: Around this time of year is when I found Monk and Bean. Monk, in September 2010. Bean in October 2011. I can only guesstimate their birthdays being that they are rescues. In Sept 2010 I was coming home from one of my many back procedures, stemming from a car accident where some guy nearly killed me. In the streets was a tiny, starving kitten. I wasn't sure that I could keep him, but I took him home anyways. At that time my life was in limbo, having lost my Dad to brain cancer, a best friend to a plane crash and my career, amongst other things. A friend was going to take him, but I couldn't part with him. I bathed fleas off of him. I cried into his fur at night. He went everywhere with me. I realized that he came to me because I needed him. Monk's real name is Sergio named after the Surgi-Center where I was heading home from that day. A year later, in October 2011, I was running two shelters for teenagers. My director said she had a black kitten that needed a home. I told her I couldn't because I was a renter and was trying to get back on my feet. She brought him in one day anyways and said 'just hold him for a sec'. That night I drove home from work with a kitten on my lap soon to be named Alfie, later nicknamed Bean. Monk needed a friend more than I realized and I needed a family more than I cared to admit. So, sometime around now is both Monk and Bean's birthdays, just guessing from the approximate ages they were when they rescued me. Social media doesn't always show real life. It shows what we want people to see. Behind this account is a person who is eternally grateful for these two cats who came into her life when she needed it most.
