In honor this polydactyl kitty and #ClearTheShelters day, I want to remind everyone to spread the word about how declawing is very inhumane and wrong. Boone Humane Society in Iowa says this, “Declawing is the choice made legally by pet owners in Iowa. We will not interfere with peoples right to dewclaw their cats.We are neither for or against it.There are many other animal issues that take priority over declawing cats. For instance:The dog meat trade,dog fighting,cock fighting,puppy mills, hoarding…etc.Those are issues that interfere immediately with animal welfare. Cat declawing does not.” ???
Boone Humane Society needs to realize that declawing DOES create an immediate threat to the health and well-being of kitties. It IS inhumane and they should speak out against it like most humane societies and rescues do in America. Trying to minimize its importance by comparing it to other important and worthy causes is wrong. They do a great service to help find homes for animals but sadly they have a very inhumane mindset on this barbaric and very unnecessary procedure.
