We’re diving into the weekend with a photo by @samuelhodgson, who worked on a story about a single diving board at a pool in the West Village. In the late 1970s, diving boards began disappearing from public and private pools in New York City — a victim of changing ideas about safety and childhood. Today, this #divingboard — at the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center — is one of only three that remain in regular use. It isn’t big, measuring only 10-feet long and hovering barely four feet above the water. But it provides just enough spring to, at times, draw a line of dozens of people waiting for a chance to leap into the shimmering aqua basin. ?#regram
