The Coast Guard, one of 5 U.S. armed forces, turns 225 today. We visited the USCGC Eagle, a training cutter for future Coast Guard officers, on a recent stay in New York Harbor. The Coast Guard is one of the oldest organizations of the federal government and until Congress established the Navy Department in 1798, it served as the nation’s only armed force afloat.
