Berlin invents and re-invents itself over and over again. In 2013, the German capital began rebuilding the royal Stadtschloss, or City Palace, heavily bombed by the Allies during World War II, then demolished by the East Germans. Three facades will mirror the original 18th-century design.
This photograph was shot on assignment for National Geographic Magazine story "Two Cities," examining the relationship between Berlin and Athens.
