LARRY CLARK: "When I got the idea for Kids, I knew it had to be written from the inside, and I thought: ‘Well, I’m not a writer, and you couldn’t get a writer to come in and like, y'know, get in with the kids; they wouldn’t accept him’. So I said: ‘Well, wouldn’t it be great if it was a kid who could write, but y'know, there are no kids that can write, I’m just having a fantasy’. But then I remembered Harmony. I thought: ‘Wait a minute, this kid said he could write, I wonder if he could or if he was just bullshitting me’. So I called him up, and he brought over this little screenplay he’d written and it was good; he could write. So I asked him to write Kids. I gave him the bare outline, about this skater who likes to fuck virgins, because he likes to be first ‘cause it’s safe sex, and the rest of the story. And he wrote the whole screenplay. The story came from stuff I saw, just hanging out with these kids." – Dazed, May 1996
