Forty-three years ago this week, cars jammed a road leading to Pocono International Raceway in Pennsylvania. “200,000 Jam Rock Festival at Pocono Track,” read the July 1972 headline. It was, @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reported, the biggest youth gathering in the East since Woodstock. Concertgoers, who paid $11 for 10 hours of music, began arriving to the hills of Eastern Pennsylvania 24 hours before the concert began. “Thousands of cars and numerous backpacking hitchhikers caused massive traffic jams,” @ニューヨーク・タイムズ reported. State troopers forced them to abandon their cars eight miles away. As the crowds danced, @ニューヨーク・タイムズ observed from above: “From an airborne helicopter, the mass of blue-denimed bodies could be seen stretching across three-quarters of the 600-acre grassy infield.” This photo came from the #archives of @ニューヨーク・タイムズ. #tbt
