Near the Siberian city of Surgut, two huge power stations, among the largest thermal power plants in the world, were built along the Chernaya River just before it feeds into the polluted Ob River. A small reservoir cools down the water near the power stations. Even during the long Siberian winters, the reservoir's high temperatures create a constant steamy fog, so that fisherman standing at water's edge to catch carp often disappear in the mist.
