Long favored in the copper miners' lunch buckets (and referred to as a "letter from 'ome") the pasty was a highly portable meal. According to the Butte Heritage Cookbook, "Its popularity spread quickly throughout the camp, and today the pasty is as much a part of Butte as the Berkeley Pit." Butte Urban Safari Tours leads tasting tours to some of Uptown's most popular pasty shops including Gamer's Cafe, where they make 'em big.
