Zeus & Aladdin, Labrador Retriever & Puppies Behind Bars handler, NYSDOC Eastern Correctional Facility, Napanoch, NY • “I feel like a living being. I don’t feel like just a DIN number no more. I’ve been with the program for a little over a year – I was one of the first five guys to get a dog. It makes me feel good that I started something positive in the facility. When I have bad days, I just speak to him, and he doesn’t judge me for who I am. They gave me an opportunity to give something back to the community. I took something, but this is my way of saying, I’m giving something back. Although it will never be the same, it’s still something. It’s more than just a certificate to me – it’s more like a sense of belonging to the world. I left my daughter at a very young age, and I don’t know what it feels like to be a father. Having Zeus gives me that responsibility. No words could describe what he is to me – he’s forever engraved in my heart.”
