A census earlier this week revealed that #tanzania 's #elephant population has declined a shocking 60% in the last 5 years.

This news is disheartening, to be sure, but it should just fuel our determination to stop poaching before it's too late. Global efforts to stem the ivory trade are making strides but still have a long way to go. China, the largest #ivory importer in the world, has indicated that it will phase out its ivory market although no date has been set. Only yesterday, California passed a bill that will hopefully lead it to join the ranks of #NewYork and #NewJersey, where ivory and rhino horn sales are banned with limited exemptions.
