“It felt awful to wake up without our mother,” Divin, 10, at a transit centre for Burundian refugees in #Rwanda with his sister Centia, 12. With insecurity in #Burundi rising, their mother Joséphine paid the equivalent of $7 to have her children escape in the middle of the night across Lake Cohoha to Rwanda. But at the transit site Divin and Centia fell ill with malaria, so Joséphine crossed the lake herself to bring her children back home. “I will do it again if my children’s lives are threatened,” she said.” Thanks to #UNICEF Burundi for sharing their story. © UNICEF Burundi/Y.
