40/100: trying new things :: my very first #rhodianotepad (and first dotted notebook at that). But that's just a memento from a day of adventures with my son. It's been a stretching week for both of us (not with each other but just a life thing that we both had to walk, grieve and grow through), so I carved out some time today for us to find wonder and make some magical moments. I didn't want the focus to be on something we buy but I didn't want to completely close out the option if we happened upon something spontaneous and it just felt right, so I set a limit on us being able to have a treat of some kind for $5 altogether or less, whether it be a sorbet, a snack or a treasure of any kind (within reason and again under $5). Sometimes limitations turn out to be the sweetest part of the adventure itself because it gives way for the creative innovator in each of us to come forth. So. I packed some carrots and pretzels in our knapsack and off we went. We began by exploring a new backroad with lots of trees and what my son refers to as the "wild wild woods" and we pretended that these woods turned into a spooky jungle. He decided that he was a knight and needed to bash all the monsters in the spooky jungle to protect Princess Ma-Mom and help all the people. I thought this was a pretty good plan. During our trek through this wild terrain, a thunderstorm roared and pelted water at us, so we pulled over and pretended that we were parked under a waterfall. In the midst all of this, the sun was still out and shining too. So we pretended that we were in Hawaii because, like, obviously ya know. And throughout this Jurassic trail, we somehow found ourselves at a quirky indie art store thanks to my uncanny superpowers for such places. After what felt like an imaginative vision quest of an afternoon, we both decided this was a good place to scour for our prizes. I got a mini Rhodia dotted notepad and he got a pack of Japanese erasers shaped like animals. We had already torn through our snacks, so we walked over to Trader Joe's and were served free samples of refreshment including a mini coffee for Princess Ma-Mom. Win. And magical mission accomplished. Hooray! ✨
