This is Hope, a four-year old female rhino, attacked by poachers in the first week of May. They darted her with tranquillising drugs and hacked off her horn, leaving her for dead.
This is an image that defines the plight of a species.

After the attack Hope was taken to Shamwari Game Reserve in the Eastern Capento receive further treatment. Major surgery was performed just a few days ago by Dr Gerhard Steenkamp from the University of Pretoria and a veterinary team to fit the protective plate that can be seen covering her wound.
Poaching numbers have doubled in South Africa these past three years. Technology can tell us where the last rhinos are, through the internet it can unite the world in dismay at the sheer horror of poaching, so lets use technology and the powerful networks we create here to make a change.
Hope is being cared for by Saving the Survivors, an organization that specialists in Rhinos that have suffered attack or trauma.
