"This image of #Mastodon's #BillKelliher and #TroySanders was a result being patient. Prior to each show, I create a mental image of every photograph I intend to take. However, once Mastodon hit the stage, my idea of what I wanted to shoot quickly met up with the reality of what I was going to be able to shoot. The band members, for the most part, stayed in their respective sections of the stage, which made getting group shots extremely difficult. However, as a concert photographer you take what you are given. When I was on Bill’s side of the stage, I was immediately drawn to the difference in scale between him and Troy, not to mention the bonus of capturing the stage light beaming off the drum set – between his legs. As patient as I was, this image came together quickly as is the case with all concert photos – the best shots almost bypass your brain and go straight from your eye to the shutter release."
