Today is Mother’s Day. As I lay here with my moms, I'm reminded as to how lucky I truly am.
I once was a stray. I was lucky to have found a loving home on my own. Early on, I was a bad boy. I scratched people and I scratched and fought with my sister, Missy. (RIP) I also used the rugs to flex my paws and scratch on them. Not once did my mom consider doing what many cat owners sadly do, and declaw me. Not once did my mom think to herself, “Oh let me amputate my beautiful little boy’s toe bones and claws so that I can have an easier life and my rugs will be in better shape.”
She took the time to train and guide me to use scratchers. She took the time to clip my nails and give me a treat afterwards. She loved me for who I am… a special, perfect little kitty like ALL kitties are. She knew right from wrong and never entertained the thought of putting me through such a cruel, inhumane, and unnecessary thing called declawing, for the convenience of her life or possessions. And now I use scratchers and not the rugs. Now, I like getting my nails trimmed since I get some tasty treats afterwards. I am whole and I am healthy.
It’s called unconditional love my friends. I wish every cat owner truly practiced it and didn't declaw their kitties.
