"...Christ-likeness may be especially important in our marriages because marriage is such a powerful way to display the gospel and the glory of God. It is the first place people will look to see if we really believe what we say we believe. Someone can have a dynamic speaking gift, or generously give to anyone in need, or appear to know a lot of Scripture, but if that have a terrible marriage, it raises questions. How can he treat his wife that way? Why is she so disrespectful to her husband? They obviously do not believe what they claim to believe. It should burden is deeply that many of our marriages paint the gospel in a bad light... Does your marriage stand out in this generation? This relationship was designed to reflect God's glory. We either shine a light that makes sense as a child of God or we take part in the crookedness and depravity of the world around us. In a way, if we don't get it right in our marriage relationships, it won't really matter how well we do beyond that. Marriage is a big deal when you think of it that way. God does so much work in our minds and hearts through this relationship. Marriage is one of the most humbling, sanctifying journeys you will ever be part of. It forces us to wrestle with our selfishness and pride. But it also gives us a platform to display love and commitment. A quote I heard recently: 'We are God's plan to make it believe able that He is good and loving and true.' God has always chosen to reveal Himself through people. Just as He used the nation of Israel to show the world who the one true God was, He calls us to represent Him to the world around us. Our lives should make it believable that there is a God. The way we love our spouses should make the love of Christ believe able and true. Wouldn't it be incredible to know that your marriage drew someone into a relationship with Christ? People need to see God in you, as you love your spouse. This world desperately needs to see an accurate reflection or Christ and the church in our marriages, because this is about God's glory! We need a fundamental shift in our thinking about what is at stake in the way we live our lives and the way we live out our marriages."
