When @TheRoots gave a concert back in 2003 in #Havana various hip hop acts opened for us. Edgaro Gonzalez of #DobleFilo was a diplomat of sorts schooling us on how the culture spread to #Cuba. Not sure if #DannyHoch is aware of how a small gesture of bringing bags upon bags of cds to an island singlehanded sparked a hip hop revolution. But that one action birthed about 30 acts and supporters for life. He took me digging for the prime of the prime Cuba funk joints. He also schooled me on the various genres of the island like "feeling" (think, their blues) timbo, bolero, son, chagui, of course reggaeton and edm culture have also found their way into their hearts. Because of the lack of culture exchange in the 70s a lot of the music made was based on "the idea" of what they thought American soul and funk and jazz was about.
