Lance Corporal Joshua Leakey was today decorated with the Victoria Cross by The Queen during an Investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. The Victoria Cross is the highest military decoration and is awarded for valour and conspicuous bravery in the face of an enemy. Lance Corporal Leakey is the third British serviceman - and the first living British serviceman - to receive the Victoria Cross for services in Afghanistan. The Victoria Cross has been awarded to L/cpl Leakey after he twice came to the aid of an injured comrade under enemy fire during an assault on a Taliban stronghold in Helmand Province in 2013.
