#tbt #earlycareeredition This is me in 1997 on the balcony of my tiny apartment I rented at the top of Hacienda Blvd in West Hollywood near Barneys Beanery. I decided for my first day there to throw on a very non-fitted suit, my manager of The Doors sunglasses, mousse in the coif and proudly represent UPS drivers everywhere. I used to walk from here to the @laughfactoryhw, @hollywoodimprov & @thecomedystore since it was conveniently located. I was represented by an agent at ICM who told me I was "gonna be the next Skeet Ulrich." I had nothing. No money and this apartment took any savings I had from college gigs back east. There was a cockroach in my apartment that was so big I nicknamed him "My Roommate" and I swear I could sometimes here him clear his throat while he snuck around my toaster crumbs. I took a pic to remind myself I was gonna become something greater than how I truly felt. I wrote on a sticky note (that I still have) "THE FUTURE OF COMEDY" to start manifesting asap. I lived there for a year. Found a place down the road which was where Steve Martin lived and knew I belonged there so it was time to boogie. I was making great money and was a regular at all the clubs. This kid you see in this picture pretending to be big time was goin' places! The day I left Hacienda I looked back before I closed the door. I stood there and I knew I would never be at this place ever again because I wouldn't go backwards. It was an apartment of fuel. As I closed a door forever I swore I heard that cockroach weeping. #YourWorstExperianceMightBeTheBestStartEverIfYouCreateThatIllusion
