"The ground was cold and wet from the rain during the night [at the Northern California Folk-Rock Festival] and the sun blared down on the dield during the afternoon... Vocalist #JimMorrison modeled his new 'short' hair, cropped off a few days before. The band was in the middle of sessions for the third #Doors album, 'Waiting for the Sun,' and Morrison threw himself into getting across to the audience, falling onstage in the process. The show was far from a triumph and went a long way toward convincing Morrison to avoid performing at outdoor daytime shows with his band in the future. That aside, [photographer Jim] Marshall did catch a timeless classic portrait of the maniacal vocalist sucking on a cigarette minutes before taking the stage. Before he snapped the shutter, Morrison had looked at him and given him the photograph with the words, 'Hey Marshall. Want a fucking shot?'"
