This was the last time I saw my grandmother. I remember wanting to talk about everything, hear her voice tell me stories, make her laugh, listen to her snore... just praying those moments would never end. All too soon it was time time to say goodbye. This goodbye was our last. She looked at me with all the strength she had and said simply said "I love you." All the things I had prepared to say were forgotten and It's all I could muster up to say back to her as well. Looking back it was more perfect than I could have ever planned, see, she was my living example of love and now it reminds me everyday that LOVE is all that remains in the end.
Somehow it's been a year today... A year not talking, hearing her voice, listening to stories, laughing, crying... A year since she was taken from this world. Somehow it feels like forever ago and yet only yesterday. I find ways to fight my pain with gratitude but it still creeps in. The daily reminders and memories taunt my tears. I reflect on her strength often as I try to move forward. I'm not sure how forever will feel... I'm not sure how to heal. But I try and live everyday to honor her life.
I know many of you who are struggling to make sense of loss as well, wanting answers and meaning, the same as me. My heart is with you on your journey, our journey. Death isn't fair or kind. But we are all in this together.
