"You Don't Own Me" became an anthem for women's suffrage and in many was controversial in 1963. Sadly, the fight for gender equality is still something we confront today. Doesn't it seem strange that we still haven't had a female President? Anyways... I am overjoyed to see this revival of a classic that meant so much to us back when Lesley Gore and I first released this record. I'll never forget how proud Lesley was to sing this song to her peers - and how proud she was that it became something of a theme song for the second wave feminist movement in the 60s. Of course, this song is dedicated in tribute to my beautiful friend Lesley's untimely passing this last month. The astoundingly talented @iamgrace and @G-Eazy recorded a new version of "You Don't Own Me" and it has a new look, and I love it...!!!! HUGE HUGE HUGE props to my brother @parkerighile for producing the new record with me. This cat has style that is un-D-Niable!
