"When I photographed Bay Area rapper #TheJacka in August 2008, I remember most how in love with his daughter he was. We met in his hometown, Pittsburgh, California, and, without a studio or location budget, made several pictures on the streets, finding interesting walls, corners and anything that might make for an inspiring backdrop. He was a super team player, willing to put in extra time and have fun on our makeshift sets. It became clear to me how and why he had so many collaborations with a myriad of different artists. He had a spiritual grounding, an openness and motivation to make things great. He mostly stuck to his signature pose, a stern brow and curl of the lip. Until his daughter showed up. All the theatrics for the camera melted off his face and he was all love. The brilliant artist, great collaborator and loving father Jacka was murdered in East Oakland on February 2nd, 2015 at just 37 years old." As told to @Rolling Stone by photographer @RobynTwomey
