This is CRAZY! I've always designed my own album art, posters, websites and really anything to do with my brand but this is so wild to have this. I used to design my own fliers for shows I did and would send them around to clubs to hang up. I really knew my audience and wanted to have a look and feel that no other comedian had. Trust me this picture back then was impressive because I was one of the only young guys in the game and all the other headshots were laughable old school looking. Like Gabe Cotter type shit where everyone was rocking perms and blazers. I was hitting the college market as a kid myself. Now that's not to say many things here NOW are cringe worthy. That shirt is umm big. It looks like I just graduated from La Cordon Bleu. And I think under that shirt my hands are in my pockets for that "hey I'm laid back" vibe but now it just looks like I've jammed both hands in my pants and I'm double jerking my bundle. This was made June 23rd, 2000 and I was gearing up for a show at the now, sadly gone, Faneuil Hall Comedy Connection. I was still way under the radar and needed to prove to the club I could do well and for me I wanted to blow them away and pack it to fuck their heads up wondering how someone NOT on TV could do such a thing. I also knew if I sold out this club the rest of the A+ rooms in the country would hear the word I was going to be one to hire (and pay me what I wanted if I got the numbers in Beantown) so it was crucial I put a win in the win column. I photoshopped the flier and I -- by myself -- made copies and went to Burlington Mall and put them on everyones windshield. I did this all day and all week. Everywhere. I put them on telephone poles, I hide them in menus at restaurants, I gave them to girls just as an excuse to talk to them but hell it was still work. I love it says Letterman favorite. At that time I was. Before his new booker came in and sent me packing bc he was jealous. Ha. I would have the last laugh. After all I was Dane Cook (with an exclamation point to boot) and you needed to know that because well I knew it and I needed to make it as a comedian or else.... hmm I guess I will never know that other option.
