Something that isn't talked much about is proper surf photography etiquette ... and with the rapid growth in photographers in the lineup I think it's an important subject. Here's an example of a couple principles that I've picked up on over the couple decades I've spent on both sides of the lens that will help you have a reputable name within the community and not bum people out. On this particular day @timmyreyes came to the beach to shoot with @nellysmagicmoments ... and even though Timmy's my buddy and it's my local spot I made sure it was Ok with them if I joined in the fun ... next thing I made sure of was that I was not only always behind Nelly and never between him and Timmy but also that I was giving Nelly ample space to properly position himself with Timmy without having to worry about backing up into me ... last but not least I asked Nelly if it was cool if I posted this shot because maybe he wouldn't want shots from the session publicized before he had a chance to get his out to publications ... kind of a bummer when you go to a spot with someone to shoot and before you can even get the shots out from the session you set up someone's already blown them up on Instagram or Facebook haha ... the greater respect we all show each other in the water the more enjoyable of an experience it will be for all of us.
