I'm getting ready to come back to play Madison Square Garden Theater for the Garden of Laughs event to support the Garden of Dreams Foundation in March.
This photo was taken the last time I performed there and was presented with a framed Retaliation to commemorate reaching a milestone.
My mom and dad had no idea that I would call them out onstage to share the spotlight and for me to present it to them and thank them for raising me with a strong belief in myself and the opportunity to take risks beyond what they or I dreamed possible. I thanked them for the love and the freedom to follow my heart.
This picture is also special because Donna and George loved each other deeply but were divorced. Seeing them walk out together -- as one -- sharing something they did together brought me unlimited joy. It was a reminder to them that through all the pain there was something bigger than all of that and it was how they mutually raised a good guy that worked hard to bring people laughs through their own hardships.
I remember standing next to my amazing mother and as the crowd stood for them and cheered I looked at her and she just whispered, "wow." My dad was watching her too. He put his hand on her back and I saw for a moment the two of them share something indescribable.
You just had to be there. I'm so happy I was. I miss'em so much.
