According to Greek mythology, Ganymede, the handsome king's son, was kidnapped by Zeus and taken to the top of Mount Olympus. This statue, however, does not depict the kidnapping, but symbolizes instead man's longing to climb Mount Olympus: hand raised, Ganymede pleads with Zeus, who appears as an eagle, to bear him up. #mythologylessonoftheday #exploringzurich
