#JamesDean would have turned 84 today. “Dennis Hopper — the ‘Rebel Without a Cause’ gang member named Goon — remembers a discussion he had with Dean about acting. ‘James Dean was a better actor that I was,’ Hopper says. ‘I was 18 years old and I thought I was the best young actor around. I said to him, “Hey, I thought I was the best. What’s happening? What are you doing that I don’t know?” And Jimmy said, “What makes you think you’re a great actor?” I said, “I hated my mother and my father and I wanted to show them, when they were in the audience, that I was better.” He said, “Well, my mother died when I was a kid. I used to cry on her grave and say, Why did you leave me? Why did you leave me? And that changed into, I’m gonna show you! I’m gonna show you!
