BREAKING Universal Pictures has acquired the action spec DESERT EAGLE, penned by actor/musician Tyrese Gibson and Mike Le, and have hired Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell to rewrite the script.

Jon Mone and Jay Polidoro will oversee for Universal Pictures. Scott Stuber will produce the action drama via his Bluegrass Films banner. Tyrese Gibson will also serve as executive producer through his Voltron Filmz company. Gibson is looking at DESERT EAGLE as a starring vehicle and potential franchise.
DESERT EAGLE tells the story of a pair of border patrol agents who investigate a drug cartel being operated out of a Native American reservation casino.
Gibson was last seen in the 2013 box office summer blockbuster FAST 6 which has earned more than $700 million worldwide, as well as, Fox Searchlight’s holiday film BLACK NATIVITY, starring Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Hudson, and Angela Bassett and directed by Kasi Lemons. Gibson will next be seen in Universal Pictures FURIOUS 7, for which he is reprising his role as Roman Pierce, out April 3, 2015. Gibson also has roles in the upcoming SOUTHPAW, directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jake Gyllenhaal. And RIDE ALONG 2, directed by Tim Story and starring Kevin Hart and Ice Cube. In addition, Gibson’s highly anticipated final album BLACK ROSE is set to be released May 5th, 2015 and to be accompanied by a book and documentary.
Mike Le wrote the Black List script PATIENT ZERO, currently set up at Screen Gems with Oscar-Winner Stefan Ruzowitzky directing and Matt Smith and Natalie Dormer starring.
Le also wrote DARK SUMMER, which got picked up by IFC Midnight and will be in theaters January 2015. Together, Gibson and Le executive produced the popular web series K-TOWN and ROLL MODELS for Ben Silverman's Electus.
Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell recently scripted the thriller VALENCIA for Bad Robot and Paramount’s Insurge Pictures which just wrapped production and they are currently writing the English-language remake of SNABBA CASH.
Scott Stuber (SAFE HOUSE, TED, IDENTITY THIEF) is currently in post-production on Ted 2, the sequel to the blockbuster comedy, which Seth Macfarlane is once again writing
