In the late 1950s, ZERO artist #HeinzMack begin working on a series of installations in the Sahara desert, “a landscape which is not spoiled and littered by the fingerprints of civilization.” The Sahara Project exemplified the #ZEROnetwork artists’ search for freedom in their artistic practices and offered Mack an opportunity to create art independent of galleries and museums.
