On December 16, 1969, the Cardinals began installing AstroTurf at Busch Memorial Stadium. From 1970 through 1977, there was a dirt infield similar to those on grass fields. From 1977 through 1995, the entire field was covered with artificial turf except for sliding pits around the bases. #CardsArchives
