“We were all aware that #jayz was one of the partners in the Made In America festival and knew he would be around at some point on this day. I was onstage shooting the beginning of the #SteveAoki's set. I then made my way down to the pit and saw Jay Z and Beyonce also in the pit watching. It wasn't my instinct to walk closer. My career in photography was mostly news until I moved to L.A. and started working entertainment so watching them have fun and capturing that was my goal. I had several people in my way so it was difficult to get a clear shot. It’s that kind of real moment where you see him truly enjoying the performance. He has a look of happiness along with some pride that he never shows during posed images. If I was to guess, Jay Z was doing what everyone else was doing: connecting with Steve and fueling on his energy. That’s what makes this image special.” As told to RS by photographer @PolkImaging
