by @superfiftyboy "Hey friends! Meet Derek (and his rescue doggy Caroline) . Derek has Mitochondrial disease. He turns 18 on December 12th but he can't have a birthday party due to his illness - he never knows how he will feel from day to day. Despite being in and out of the hospital for years he always stays positive - and Fifty & I just think that is so cool and admirable!

Derek's mom asked if anyone would be able to mail him birthday cards in lieu of having a party. Derek really enjoys getting mail and she thought it would be awesome for him to get letters from a lot of different people all over the world!
Derek's family also adopted their pup Caroline after she was found in a pile of trash and was extremely untrusting of Fifty. They never turned their backs on her and now she is a very important part of their family. Derek's family is just like all of ours- they love all of their family members equally and are devoted to their happiness!
